To customers and friends of our shop. Some times it is hard to describe the essence of RAAM and the magnitude of the event. To have a athlete from our area compete in such a race it takes years of training and impressive results in other ultra endurance events to even reach the start line. Ross Meucke is an inspiration for the entire Columbia Basin. Scott’s Cycle and Sports is proud help Ross compete in the 2010 RAAM.
Ross Meucke is now over 800 miles into the 2010 RAAM currently hovering around the top 15 riders in bicycle racing’s ultimate test of endurance. This is a huge accomplishment for Ross and all of his supporters including Scott’s Cycle and Sports. Ross is using Louis Garneau helmets, shoes, and apparel and is using both the 928 and Infinito model Bianchi Bikes. Please check out Ross’s blog at http://www.mueckeracing.net and http://www.raceacrossamerica.org for live updates and results on happenings in this momentous race.

Giant founder King Liu will again show his passion for cycling with a ride through the bicycle-friendly nation of The Netherlands
Giant Bicycles founder King Liu is set to embark on his latest cycling journey, “Green World on Wheels,” June 14-19 in The Netherlands. Over a six-day period, King will complete a 500km ride (310 miles!) through the nation described as a “cycling paradise.”
After completing the challenges of the “Tour de Taiwan” in 2007 and “Ride Like King” from Beijing to Shanghai in 2009, King realized his actions not only fulfilled a personal dream but also are helping make Giant’s home nation, Taiwan, more conducive to cycling.
“Green World on Wheels” aims to spread the message of using bicycles to protect the environment and improve health. Government officials from the Taiwan Ministry of Transportation and Communication have been invited to participate and study the cycling infrastructure of The Netherlands to help Taiwan improve its own cycling environment and take the next steps to become a “cycling island.”
In The Netherlands, more than 27 percent of all travel is done by bicycle. In Amsterdam, the rate is even higher, at 37 percent. The nation is known for having one of the most cycling-friendly infrastructures in the world and during his ride King will lead groups of cyclists through five of the country’s most cycling-friendly cities.
By bringing together government officials and the general public, “Green World on Wheels” hopes to inspire people and educate them on the ways cycling can improve both the environment and personal well-being.
Let me ask you, have you ever been out having a great ride, only to have it cut short by a flat tire?
Any one who has ever experienced such a conundrum knows the absolute disdain this situation
may cause. Not only has your ride been cut short, you are also afoot; defeating the entire purpose of the bike.
At Scott’s we have recognized this problem and now offer a permanent solution: the Flat Proof Guarantee!
For $45 we will guarantee your bike against puncture flats for as long as you own the bike– without using
those extremely heavy, ride ruining, solid rubber tubes.
As always it’s free and supported with aids stations, lunch at Scott’t Cycle and Sports in Hermiston and Popsicles for return trip to Scott’s Cycle and Sports in Kennewick.
Hermiston Scott’s Cycle riders start at 7:00 am
Kennewick Scott’s Cycle and Sports riders start at 9:00 am
Landing on the calander a week after the Inland Empire Century in Richland and a week before the Century ride of the Centuries in Pendleton Scott’s to Scott’s is a good way to keep the peddling addiction going right here in the Columbia Basin.
While a lot of attention is given to the carbon fiber wonder bikes, performance driven road bikes, and mountain bikes, the majority of cycling is had by more practical bicycles. These practical bicycles take on a mix of features that try to find a balance of value for the customer. It is encouraging that most [...]
